Messing On llustrator

Today i scanned in all my design worksheets and drawings from my sketchbook and began to play about and experiment on illustrator, i didn't want to start designing and creating pattern at such an early stage but i thought it may inspire me to draw differently or give me new ideas. Here's a few to look at....

I created backgrounds from moth wings and insect wings and overlaid them with insects and flower images in different scales to see what different effects i could achieve. I didn't really want to put different filters on them and change the way they looked but i did want to change the colours and keep some of my images as observational drawings as i think they work well together.

Fab Prints!

Searching through patternpeople.blogspot i came across these beautiful digital prints all mixed together from an issue of Vogue in January 12. I love how bright and bold they are and makes you not know where to look with all the mix match prints.

Wow!!

Inspiration

This weekend i am going to develop my animal flower shapes, using collage to create surreal animals and flowers together, i found these pictures on a photo editing website that i thought were really quirky and fun to inspire some of my ideas.

I also found a designer Martin Margiela who uses recycling into his fashion garments, he creates garments from old used products like cushion covers, leather belts etc, i think recycling is a huge issue and feel its important that all designers and artists can at least help towards working eco friendly if possible! i think its great what he is doing as all his recycled products hes used would have probably ended up in landfill yet hes produced beautiful unique garments, here's a few images of his work

Pictures Of Work Today As Promised!

Well, i achieved my aim for the day and more! Woohoo, i got four worksheets complete which i am really pleased with as i inter cut into all my new design worksheets which is so time consuming!! here's a few images of my design development today..

This taken me a while inter cutting all the small parts on the insects wing, but i really love the outcome i think its really effective and would look really nice laser cut on a fashion garment or interiors for example a lampshade so the light can shine through, i also used collage and wire to draw other insects with
I decided to work onto different coloured backgrounds to give me a different effect to my drawing, here i photocopied some of the insects i had drawn from another worksheet and cut them up to create flower shapes but with insect parts, i also inter cut into the sheet and drew on top
I drew another insect but changed the scale so the insect filled the whole of the sheet, i changed the colours from that i had been working with to also develop my ideas and inter cut into just the bottom part of the wing
Here i worked on top of a navy background, its quite hard to see as i taken the picture only an hour ago so there was no natural light at all, however i used collage of my muscle drawing and pleated parts to create a different effect, i then painted on top a detailed insect wing and inter cut into it i also used wire to draw the body and parts of the wing also which is quite hard to see, i then stuck a gold textured sheet behind so it comes through the parts where i had inter cut. Here's another image to see the detail of the pleating etc....

Working away...

Today i am spending my whole Thursday day off on design developing, with an aim to get around three good quality worksheets experimenting with drawing in different ways, using scale and colour with different materials! Working from my bedroom i create alot of mess and clutter :) but feel with everything around me i can create some good design research
Take a look at my messy workspace haha....
With a bit of Phil Spenser : Secret Agent, endless episodes of come dine with me, and my little Springer Buster i could happily sit all day and draw and paint developing my designs...
With a few tea breaks :)
= a good productive day for me :) i will be uploading my images of how productive i have been later tonight!

The Result Of Hibernating For A Week :)

This past week i have worked like crazy after my tutorial trying to build and develop my design development on worksheets, i created my mood board in my space at university which made me just want to sit and work all day from my mood board as it had so much visual reference on!
Here's a little sneaky peek at where all the designs happen ... :)
I think this week i really got my head into design developing and visual researching, i was working quite quick creating a few worksheets a day! I experimented with scale and techniques and materials to give my drawing a different style and development, i looked at unusual flowers, mixed with animals to give them a surreal unique feel to them. Here's a few to look at...

Developing Ideas and Thoughts..

After researching and visiting studies i had a talk with Donna and nick so they could see my progression, I had produced a few new worksheets and sketches in my sketchbook to show them where i could develop and move forward. We discussed what may final products would be, but me being me i would like to have ago at a bit of everything to see what works best and what i enjoy most and to also show i am versatile in my designs.

Heres a few of the worksheets i had produced...

After we looked over my work and talked about where i wanted to progress, we decided that what i had was a good starting point, but now i needed to experiment and research more into my design development, i was going to develop by playing with colour and scale, expand the skeleton like forms and abstract natural forms. To consider using different treatments and materials including collage. Produce a few surreal combinations of animals and flowers together. In the end we came up with a few different avenues to go down and develop, as for the muscle drawing i decided to use this as textural reference or backgrounds so it isn't literally a gruesome muscle. :) Ew!

More Researching...

Today i went to visit The World Museum in Liverpool as i heard they had a great bug and insect collection that i could work from and photograph, here are a few pictures of the images of insects i taken and my drawings inspired from my visit...

I also came across Ernst Haeckle's beautiful illustrations of plant forms and insects which also inspired me to draw from my images taken from the world museum, Ernst's illustrations are very colourful and extreamly detailed which i loved, and want to get simular colourful detail in my drawings.
