What To Do?...

Now Im designing on the computer and deciding what my final products will be, however Im struggling in what to produce, as i would like to do a bit of everything to show my skills, but from doing a national diploma in fashion and clothing i feel i want to do something different to push myself out of what i already know so i have been looking for some inspiration to inspire me, i found a designer Louise Body who creates fabrics and wallpapers, i have also been looking at different ways that the pattern is structured on the wallpaper and scale etc to give me some ideas i thought Louise's designs where beautiful here's a few images of her work...

Long Time No See ...

Hi! Sorry I've been away for a while been busy with other things but I've still been producing my research and drawing development sheets, after i had started to develop designs on the computer i thought i was using the same imagery because i liked them the best maybe i don't know, so i decided to produce some more research ideas of different insects and bugs to expand my collections. Most of these where done on the experimental day we had at uni, creating backgrounds with inks and dyes, using bleach and wax resist on stretched paper! it was really exciting to just have a play and be softer and free with my painting and also to get messy :) as i love to create mess haha!

I worked on different coloured background sheets and also used different materials to get different effects, i stuck to using my water coloured pencils to produce good quality observational drawings as i would like to keep this feel through my computer work.

On our experimental day while i had worksheets and backgrounds drying i did some very quick sketches in my sketchbook also with gold shimmer paint and brusho dyes, i used wax resist and bleach to create different textures so all the parts of the insects could not be seen but if looked at closely you can see its part of the insect. I though they worked really well considering they only taken 5 minuets :)

I tried creating some bugs with oil pastel, i used a gold shimmer paint behind it as my intention was to scratch through the pastel so the gold shimmer would shine through. I really like the texture it gives to the bugs shell.

I also wanted to expand my flower collection so i started with the one which is finished however i havent finished my other yet as i have been very busy, i also used oil pastel and paint to create the texture and colours of this flower.

Preparing For A Experimenting Day..

Today i have been working on another development worksheet, as i started to scan in my images and create pattern and compositions i felt i didnt have enough images to work from so am going to create a few more insects/bugs and flowers to scan in and use also

Today me and Becky stretched some paper to prepare for a full day of experimenting and drawing in different ways to get the maximum out of our design development and research.

Searching For Some Fashion Inspiration

I found some interesting images where fashion has been inspired by insects on a fashion blog Style FT. The garments are very structured and colourful which i like, Take a look...

I also found another designer called Alan Donovan Tjon his collection is based on infects yet very different to the ones above, his is more about drapes and flowing fabric with details of the wings which i really like. Here's a few of his designs...

These next images are of him collaborating with Paula Shelby Avellaneda

Although this is his working with another designer you can still see the relattion between these dresses and insects, with the colours used and the folds and pleats and textures created. Almost feather like i think there fab! :)
